By Luke Vickery UL Captain 2017-2018
The University of Limerick was delighted to host seventeen colleges from around the country for the third student inter-varsity of the academic year. With almost 180 archers taking part, it was a well-attended event that saw stiff competition across all categories. A big thank you goes out to Kevin and Philip, the two judges that oversaw the shooting. Anyone who was there on the day will remember the different layout set up as for most it was the first time shooting back to back down two pitches. We at UL are very grateful to the Delta Sport Dome for accommodating us. As with any event which has so many participating it can be a stressful set up but they did all they could to make things go as smoothly as possible. A software glitch on the day meant we reverted to the old-school system of the judge’s whistle being used instead of the buzzer but by the time the practice ends were complete I think all involved took it in their stride. At least the pizza order went to plan, which as we all know is the most important part of the day.
The UL Snapchat takeover was a resounding success and the IV was almost the entire content on the UL story for the day. Over 5000 people viewed the story and had a chance to see archery in action. We hope this will work to spread awareness of the sport and get more people involved. Thanks to all who participated and sent in content or allowed pictures of them to be taken and sent in. We will have a video of the days story soon and will post it on the I.S.A.A Facebook page for you all to see.
So thanks to all for coming down to Limerick for the day despite the poor travelling conditions and we look forward to seeing you all at the next competition.
